Vocational skills
In addition to funding secondary school bursaries, FOCHTA also focuses on vocational skills training. There are skills shortages in many critical fields in Malawi, yet many secondary graduates struggle to find work. FOCHTA Malawi (Australia) inc. is raising money to build a Youth Training Centre where FOCHTA will offer vocational training programs in fields such as carpentry, mechanics, electrical installation, tailoring and computer skills. Several former FOCHTA secondary students are being supported through vocational skills courses in these areas in order to prepare them to work at the Youth Centre training others in these skills.
