Recent Activities - October 2014

-  In the current school year that started in September 2014. FOCHTA is supporting 81 student beneficiaries, the same number as in the previous year.

 -  Congratulations to Austin Kabalame & Wilson Saikonde who have recently graduated in Bunda College of Agriculture, with the former in B Sc (Irrigation Engineering) and the latter in B Sc (Agriculture). FOCHTA would also like to thank Lynne Oldfield & John Flint of Brisbane in Australia for supporting Austin all these years while David Fan of HK in supporting Wilson. The graduation ceremony will be held in November.

 -  As for the university’s  2004-5 academic year, no beneficiary has been successful in obtaining matriculation. But there is one student Patrick Jamali who has been selected to enroll in a teaching diploma course.

 -  In view of the importance of the grassroots work done by the FOCHTA Grassroots Committee in the community level, FOCHTA has been trying to re-vitalize the workings of the grassroots committee. As a first step,  Program Officer Nenani has conducted a field survey of the workings of the GRC members. This was followed by a meeting on 28-9-2014 when all members were invited to air their views and to find solutions to them.

Grassroots members play an important role by looking after students in their district. Issues dealt with include checking on students’ school performance, offering encouragement & counseling, and seeing to it that their basic needs are met. The other roles of GRC members are to supervise gogoz groups, help students in bursary application and participate in community sensitization meetings.
