Lucy Steinitz’s visit to FOCHTA

Below is an account of Lucy Steinitz’s visit to FOCHTA recently. Lucy is a reputable development consultant who has worked for many years in different capacities in Namibia and Ethiopia.

“It is so good to be back! I am also grateful to Claude for all he has done on-site and behind the scenes to ensure that FOCHTA continues to transform the lives of Thyolo’s young people, giving them hope and concrete skills. FOCHTA’s impact is like a cascade of pebbles that are dropped into a smooth lake. The pebbles make a big splash - but equally important, they cause an ever-broadening ripple effect that spreads outwards across the water. This happens as educated graduates find themselves successfully employed, with sufficient earnings to support their families and sponsor the education of their younger siblings or other relatives. These secondary beneficiaries, in turn, go on to assist many more young people…and the waves of FOCHTA’s impact ever wider over the generations.

Thus FOCHTA’s investment goes far beyond the students who are sponsored directly - and it is no wonder that Government has recently called upon FOCHTA as a lead organization when an emergency struck. You are recognised and respected - even by the Minister of Gender herself - and this is great!”
