FOCHTA celebrates ninth anniversary

In March 2012, FOCHTA celebrates its ninth anniversary after starting operation in March 2003. During this time, we have given bursaries to 1788 secondary school students, 19 university students and 35 technical college students doing diploma courses.

Many of our university and diploma graduates have now entered the local workforce  covering many walks of life. These include 1 statistician, 1 secondary schoolteacher, 1 social worker, 1 animal health  worker/programme officer, 16 primary school teachers, 1 policeman, 3 welders, 6 tailors, 1 nurse, 1 medical assistant, 1 clinical medicine officer, 3 community development workers, 1 motor vehicle mechanic and 1 accountant.

In addition, through the opening of a door to a better future for our students, one student is now studying a Master Degree on Demography at Capetown University and another doing a Bachelor of Medicine Degree at Moi University in Kenya.

Our Gogoz (Grandma) Programme has also made significant inroads to the livelihood of over 800 gogoz through our rotation programme with the dispensing of 225 goats, 312 chickens and 10 beehives.

In this auspicious month, a calf has been born, bringing to three the number of newborns since January. There are now a total of seven young and old cows in the FOCHTA farm.
