Student beneficiary Falles Mayeso being visited by FOCHTA staff

Student beneficiary Falles Mayeso being visited by FOCHTA staff. Behind her is the headmistress of Providence Catholic School. Like all Catholic and National schools in Malawi, they are catered for elite students, for with better teaching quality, the chance of them going into tertiary institution is much higher then if they study in local community schools.

Generally, the lowest standard are in community day schools. With considerably higher standard are community boarding schools. Students are allocated to the three types of schools depending on their primary school’s final year exams results. The fee structure also varies in different types of schools, with none being free, hence the intervention by FOCHTA.
