FOCHTA signs MOU with Chiefs over FOCHTA Youth Centre

 As FOCHTA prepare to construct its Youth Centre, 11 chiefs and two Village Development Committee chairpersons surrounding the project site have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with FOCHTA as part of showing their commitment to the project.

The signing of the MOU took place on 3rd November 2012 at Mangunda Court when FOCHTA convened a meeting to explain to the chiefs how the project will assist the orphans, other vulnerable children and the people in the area and Thyolo as a whole.

At the meeting, the stakeholders discussed the role chiefs, local people and FOCHTA.

The following points were agreed:

* The local people through chiefs will gather river sand for the project.

* The local people through chiefs will gather grey soil for the moulding of building blocks at the project site.

* The chiefs and the village members will take ownership role in protecting the Youth Centre against any acts of vandalism.

* The senior chief will produce a duty roaster for each village to ensure that all junior chiefs take part in the work towards the project.

FOCHTA will play a leading role in the construction of the project and act as mediator to all stakeholders. FOCHTA hosted this meeting to enable the local people to take ownership of the project since it will benefit them. The population of the area is estimated at 18,000 people.
