Training program for FOCHTA beneficiaries highly successful

Over four days in December 2010, 94 FOCHTA beneficiaries were fortunate enough to take part in an Education program to raise awareness about issues faced by young people. Students from 18 secondary schools in the Luchenza area participated.

Topics covered included: coping with HIV/AIDS related issues, personal safety and mental health awareness. Students were also asked to participate in a writing competition. The topic for junior students was, ‘How can a person become a Malawi citizen’, senior students were asked to write on the ‘Effects of HIV/AIDS on Education and Development’. The winner of the junior school competition was Samuel Muhondo of St Patrick’s Secondary School while secondary school winner was Peter Kambalame from Luchenza Secondary School. Congratulations to the winners!

One of the most popular sessions over the four days was a counselling session where students were advised about when and where they could receive counselling during difficult and challenging times in their lives.
