Highlights of Some of Our Students

These young people have excelled in their chosen fields - with FOCHTA’s support during their secondary schooling, and later with the help of generous donors through their tertiary studies.

Ireen Miteche. Ireen passed her final examinations at Chancellor College, a constituency college of University of Malawi, in December 2016 and will finish her 3-month practical in a secondary school by early April, before obtaining her degree in Bachelor of Education. Until she begins her teaching career, she will be volunteering at FOCHTA as a research assistant.

Treaser Thomas has graduated in B Sc in the same university. Her graduation will be held in April. Treaser has proved to be the finest example of resiliency. She had started her four year course some five years ago, but after finishing first year, decided to change course with the agreement of her sponsor Professor Don Ferrin in Singapore. Later on, she suffered from health problems resulting in depression that kept her away from studies for a year. It has all come to a most happy ending, for apart from having graduated, she has obtained employment, starting an internship at the Malawian Govt.’s Department of Meteorology. 

Dyton Liphale has been teaching in a secondary school since his graduation in B Ed. He is currently studying for a Masters Degree in Sociology at Chancellor College.

Gift Botosi, who has obtained a Diploma in Clinical Science is now studying MB BS to be a doctor at the College of Medicine.

Aaron Mwafulirwa, after obtaining a Degree in B Sc - Physiotherapy is now a lecturer at the College of Medicine.

Clara Lemani, after obtaining a Masters Degree in Statistical Science is now working for an NGO in the country’s capital, Lilongwe, as a researcher in maternal health. 

Amadu Bwanali, after obtaining a B Sociology is now working at Malawi CAMFED as a manager in the District Operations Secretariat. CAMFED, or Campaign For Female Education is an NGO with its headquarter in UK.

Brenda Jeremiah, after obtaining B Sc (Midwifery & Nursing) is now a midwife at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the largest hospital in Blantyre. She was married over a year ago to Emmanuel, an accountant, and now has a baby boy called Miracle. She is currently on maternity leave.

Violet Mlozi, who has obtained B Sc (Technical Education) is now a teacher in a secondary school.

Siyani George, after graduating in B Sc (Agriculture) is now working at PLAN International, Malawi, an NGO that helps poor children to access their rights to health, education and food security.Lucius Gawani. He has obtained in February 2017 a Diploma in Clinical Science, a three year course, and has just completed in February 2017 a one-year internship. He is now working as a clinical officer at Mulanje Mission Hospital.

Nenani James, a holder of an Advanced Diploma in Community Development is now working as a field officer at YADEP or Youth for Development and Productivity. YODEP is a community based organisation whose aim is to promote community development in the field of HIV/AIDs, youth development, vulnerable children’s education support, etc.

Justice Gwirani has in March 2017 graduated in B A (Education). He is    now teaching in a private secondary school.

 Taona Stanford has recently obtained an Advanced Certificate in Electrical Installation, now looking for a job. Meantime, he is serving as a volunteer at FOCHTA, helping to fix electrical wirings, etc.

Charles Sokoso, who obtained a Diploma in  Animal Health & Livestock Developemnt is now working as an Assistant Veterinary Officer in the Department of Animal Health & Livestock Development. He is married with a son. His wife, a then classmate, is also working in the same department as an outreach officer.
