Micro-Loan ProgrammeSo far, over 300 people have benefited from this programme. Our general policy is to offer support to groups rather than to individuals. An exception is made to the women who receive loans to cook school meals for our bursary recipients. A group of several people from a community may apply for a loan, who then decide among themselves who should take out the loan. Peer pressure from within the group encourages repayment. On average, we lend US$40 to each group. The loans allow people to establish small businesses, enabling them to generate some income for themselves. Such loans in the past year have been used for raising chickens, growing crops, selling eggs and scones, raising goats and cattle, and brewing local beer.
