> Case Study : Alambeje
Alambeje Daniel Alambeje is the sixth born child in a family of seven. She loves school very much, but the most challenging part, apart from being an orphan, is that she is crippled, she uses a wheelchair. She has received a Fochta bursary from January 2007, which enables her to attend St Anthony secondary school where there are boarding facilities for girls. She used to attend a day school, but being in a wheelchair she needed someone to push her to school, so her first two years in secondary school were very hard. She is determined to finish her secondary education, and with Fochta's assistance would like to study a tertiary course. Alambeje's boarding school does not provide blankets or mosquito nets. The blanket she has been using was borrowed from her brother and is worn out. She periodically suffers from malaria, and the clinic where she could be treated charges 500 kwacha (A$4.50) a visit, which she normally does not have. Fochta has set up a Special Relief Fund to help children is situations such as these.
